Concert Choir NYC Excursion
On May 3rd and 4th the BCC Concert Choir took a whirlwind weekend excursion to New York City (pictured left). While in the Big Apple, our choristers participated in a singing exchange with the Young People's Chorus of New York City, had dinner at Mars 2112, and attended a Broadway performance of Alfred Hitchcock's classic "39 Steps", all in one day! On the second day, the Choir performed at the Union Chapel AME Church in Newark, New Jersey before heading back to Boston. Premier Choir Oregon Tour
From June 24th through July 2nd BCC's Premier Choir traveled to Eugene and Portland, Oregon to participate in the Pacific International Children's Choir Festival (PICCFest). While at PICCFest, the singers stayed in dorms at the University of Oregon in Eugene. The five day festival included a total of nine youth choirs from around the country. Observing, rehearsing with, learning from, and getting to know their peer choirs was an invaluable experience for our singers. A highlight of the festival was the chance to rehearse with Maestro Helmuth Rilling, world-renowned conductor of the Orgeon Bach Festival, which was occuring simultaneously with PICCFest. While in Eugene, the choir also perfomed at the U.S.
Olympic Trials, and attended a performance of the
Bach B
Minor Mass. After PICCFest, the choir ventured to
Portland where they took in some sightseeing and
hiking, as well as a final performance at All Saints
Church. After an exciting but exhausting 9 days, the
choir said goodbye to Oregon and headed back to
Boston.

We are pleased to welcome Ray Daniels to
the BCC family as our new Manager of Programs and
Recruitment.
For the past two years, Ray has enjoyed working as
an Artistic Assistant at the Boston Pops where he
helped to produce performances, tours, and other
public or private engagements for the Pops. He
currently serves as the
Conductor of the Honors
Orchestra for the Nashoba Youth Orchestras. In this
role he conducts the top group and employs his
artistic management skills by managing productions,
volunteers, auditions, and finding new ways to attract
new participants to the organization. In 2003, Ray
founded Daniels Music Schools, an organization
created to bridge the gap between diminishing music
education programs in schools and individuals
seeking high quality music education. For the next
three years, he created music programs in several
schools in the Greater Boston area.
As a testament to his talent as a composer, Ray's
Rev. E.L. Knight for Solo Tuba was premiered
by
Boston Symphony Orchestra Principal Tubist, Michael
Roylance, during the 2007 Tanglewood season. Prior
to his role at the Boston Pops, Ray taught in
some of the top schools in the nation including Philips
Exeter Academy. He received a Bachelor of Music

GREGORY B. MONACK FOUNDATION
The Boston Children's Chorus is both honored and proud to be the first recipient of funds from the Gregory B. Monack Foundation. Founder Susan Monack, pictured third from left with BCC's Artistic Director Anthony Trecek-King, Executive Director Annette Rubin and Premier Choir graduate Sherylynn Sealy, presents a $10,000 check to the Boston Children's Chorus from the May 30th Fundraiser "An Evening for Greg's Kids", the foundation's first organized event. The mission of The Gregory B. Monack Foundation,
Inc., founded in 2008, is to support sports and music
programs for youth that teach participants self respect,
respect for those different from them, and the
importance of personal responsibility.
Greg was born on Jan. 22, 1984 in Milton, attending
Milton schools through grade 6. He
attended Noble & Greenough School in grades 7-12.
In September 2002, he entered the Boston College
Honors
Program. Shortly after his freshman year, on June 10,
2003, Greg died in a car accident 2 miles from home.
He was 19.
Two of Greg's great loves were sports and music.
He played Milton Little League and soccer, and later,
Varsity football and lacrosse. Always full of energy and
intensity, Greg also skateboarded, skiied,
snowboarded, and played tennis and golf. Keenly
attuned to music from early on, Greg took piano and
guitar lessons, and briefly played in a band. Music
gave Greg much joy, whether as the backdrop to a
video game or on the latest Phish CD.
Greg thrived on his passionate participation in
sports and music, and the Foundation was created so
others can experience these gifts as well.
