POSITION SUMMARY

The Chief of Staff (CoS) will serve as a strategic leader, operational driver, and cultural ambassador at BCC. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, this individual will align organizational priorities, foster cross-departmental collaboration, and advance BCC’s mission through strategic planning and inclusive leadership.

The CoS ensures departmental alignment in collaboration with the leadership team and supports BCC’s mission-driven goals. This role focuses on streamlining operations, driving strategic initiatives, and fostering a cohesive and inclusive organizational culture. The CoS will understand the value of BCC's unique identity and demonstrate a deep understanding of the cultural, social, and economic backgrounds of BCC’s singers, families, and staff.

The ideal candidate will balance strategic vision, operational excellence, and a people and culture-centered leadership style to create an inclusive, efficient, high-performing culture where everyone feels valued and connected.

CORE COMPETENCIES 1.    Strategic Leadership

a.     Collaborate with the ED and leadership team to implement BCC’s strategic plan, aligning initiatives with organizational goals.

b.     Drive multi-year goal setting and prioritize projects that advance BCC’s mission.

c.      Translate organizational strategies into actionable steps and ensure measurable progress while fostering team-wide accountability.

d.     Employ strong data analysis skills to evaluate BCC’s performance, project outcomes, and opportunities for improvement.

e.     Act as a representative of the Executive Director in meetings, calls, and initiatives, ensuring key takeaways are communicated and operationalized effectively.

f.      Develop and implement decision-making frameworks that integrate BCC’s values and strategic priorities

2.     Operational Excellence and Project Management

a.     Oversee cross-departmental workflows, enhancing interdepartmental collaboration.

b.     Serve as the central project manager, ensuring initiatives are delivered on time and within scope.

c.     Establish systems to track and report progress on initiatives, compiling and analyzing relevant data to maintain momentum.

d.     Oversee administrative operations, including budget development, workflow optimization, scheduling, and material preparation.

e.     Co-collaborator with the leadership team in the creation of and oversight of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track organizational progress.

f.      Develop effective feedback mechanisms to track organizational progress and improve decision-making.

g.     Act as a resource for resource allocation and operational decision-making.

3.     Leadership and Team Empowerment

a.     Act as a strategic partner to the ED, managing up to align leadership team priorities.

b.     Serve as a unifying force across teams, ensuring alignment with BCC’s mission and strategic goals.

c.      Ensure all team members feel valued, supported, and empowered in their roles.

d.     Enhance internal communication and decision-making with a matrix framework to prevent hierarchical bottlenecks.

e.     Act as an accountability partner for both the ED and the leadership team, ensuring progress on shared goals.

4.       Cultural Competency and Inclusive Leadership

a.      Foster an inclusive and cohesive employee experience, supporting diversity, equity, and belonging.

b.      Develop initiatives that strengthen team cohesion, trust, and shared purpose.

c.      Use emotional intelligence to build relationships and address challenges proactively.

d.      Manage up effectively, providing actionable feedback and prioritization strategies to the ED.

5.     Communication

a.     Develop transparent feedback loops and communication strategies that engage all levels of the organization.

b.     Serve as a unifying force across departments to align goals and address challenges collaboratively.

c.      Anticipate organizational needs and create strategies to mitigate challenges proactively.

d.     Drive a matrix-based communication approach, minimizing silos and enhancing organizational connectivity.

e.     Partner with stakeholders to draft and deliver strategic communications, including presentations, reports, and talking points for internal and external audiences.

6.     Employee Experience and Organizational Culture

a.     Champion professional growth, employee engagement, and talent retention strategies.

b.     Champion BCC's mission by ensuring that all initiatives, programs, and communications reflect the values and priorities of the communities it serves.

c.      Actively listen to and engage with feedback from clients and staff, using insights to inform policies, programs, and organizational culture.

7.       Understanding and Engaging the BCC Community

a.     Demonstrate an understanding of the diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds represented by BCC’s singers, families, and staff.

b.     Foster relationships with staff, singers, and families to build trust, ensure inclusivity, and enhance the organization’s sense of community.

c.      Integrate BCC's community's lived experiences and unique perspectives into strategic decision-making and operational processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

●      Minimum of 10 years of administrative management and project management experience in an executive environment.

●      Proven ability to align priorities, manage up, down, and sideways, and work inclusively with all levels of an organization.

●      Strong emotional intelligence, with a demonstrated ability to build trust, foster collaboration, and manage interpersonal dynamics effectively.

●      Exceptional project management skills, including the ability to implement effective feedback loops and bring together diverse perspectives to achieve organizational goals.

●      Proven success in developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

●      Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to represent the organization to diverse audiences.

●      Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

●      Experience managing teams toward measurable goals.

●      Expertise in non-profit finance, operational metrics, and tools like Microsoft Office.

●      A background in arts education, administration, or project management is a plus. ● Commitment to BCC’s mission and core values.

COMPENSATION

Compensation for the role of Chief of Staff at Boston Children’s Chorus is $125,000. BCC offers a competitive benefits package including health, vision & dental insurance, 403(b) employer contributions, generous PTO, short-term disability, and more.
