Title: In-Schools Programs Conductor
Reports to: Associate Director of Choirs

Hours: Fridays from 8:15 - 9:30 am weekly, (October - Mid-June)
Location: Allston Neighborhood (Boston)
OVERVIEW
Boston Children’s Chorus (BCC) harnesses the power of music to connect our city’s diverse communities, cultivate empathy and inspire social inquiry. Through intensive choral training and once- in-a-lifetime performing experiences, BCC enhances the education and social development of youth as future leaders and global citizens in the 21st century. Boston Children’s Chorus leads several in- school choir programs for the 2024-2025 season. Choir Conductors are an integral part of the artistic team, designing and shaping foundational learning for BCC’s youngest choristers. In collaboration with BCC’s artistic staff, Choir Conductors will be expected to vision, plan, and execute high-level rehearsals and performances on a weekly basis and contribute to a mission-centered, culturally responsive, and inspiring choral experience for children and youth throughout Greater Boston.
TEACHING & CONDUCTING
- Plan and lead instruction that supports learning goals and performance outcomes for singers in assigned School Programs
- Provide weekly directions to associated teaching team (collaborative pianists, cooperating teachers, etc.)
- Collaboratively choose appropriate musical literature for successful instruction
- Attend scheduled meetings with the In-School Programs team to plan for performances, events, recruitment, and assessments
- Support visioning, planning, and execution of In-School performances throughout the season as determined by the Associate Director of Choirs
- Provide support, as directed by the concert production team, for set up and break down of the concert stage, holding rooms, registration areas, etc.
- Maintain timely communication with the Associate Director of Choirs and BCC colleagues via email and/or text
- Recruit and audition students of all backgrounds for the organization at large
- Confer with teachers/school administrators and the Associate Director of Choirs regarding student progress
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Choirs
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
- Bachelor’s degree in music
- Demonstrated excellence as a choral conductor
- Bilingual written and verbal proficiency is strongly preferred
- Minimum 3 years direct experience in music education or choral conducting
- Knowledge of choral techniques, vocal pedagogy, and a broad range of choral repertoire for children
- Knowledge and experience of Kodály, Gordon, and other music pedagogies
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Proven success with recruiting to a choral music program
- The right candidate is a capable, independent worker with strong entrepreneurial spirit, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment
COMPENSATION
The rate for this engagement is $150 per session ($75 per hour with a two-hour minimum for each engagement).
