Karen Frank
Assistant Conductor
Canadian conductor, choral director, and mezzo-soprano Karen Frank boasts a diverse musical career. With extensive experience in both solo and choral performances, she is recognized for her expertise in choral conducting and music education.
Karen is currently pursuing her Doctor of Musical Arts in Choral Conducting at Boston University, under the mentorship of Dr. Daniel Parsley. She earned her Master of Arts in Musicology, focusing on Choral Conducting, from York University, where she studied with Dr. Lisette Canton, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Classical Piano Performance from York University, where she studied with Christina Petrowska Quilico.
Karen serves as the General Manager of the JUNO Award-winning Ottawa Bach Choir and has been a member of the choir since 2020. She has had numerous guest conducting experiences and has served as Assistant Conductor for both the York University Chamber Choir and the York University Concert Choir. Notable engagements include the Theatre of Early Music’s “Lux Aeterna” with Voces8, the London Handel Festival’s Virtual Messiah, and performances with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, Ensemble Caprice and more. She has also appeared at festivals such as Bachfest Leipzig and Ottawa Chamberfest, and has toured internationally. Karen is an active member of the American Musicological Society, the American Choral Directors Association, and Choral Canada.
