Join Boston Children’s Chorus as we examine the life and legacy of Coretta Scott King, and her myriad efforts continuing the work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King. In the years after his death, Coretta emerged as lightning rod for change and a strong voice of conscience for the civil rights movement and many connected causes. Join in spirit and song as all of Boston Children’s Chorus commemorates Coretta Scott King’s 100th year and her own legacy of love, compassion, and justice.
South Africa Tour
Our Music Director, Kenneth Griffith, will be featured as the Master Conductor for the Children’s Choir of the Mzanzi Conductors Convention hosted by Choral Celebration Network Foundation (CCNF) in Cape Town, South Africa, in March 2027. Our singers will join him and other world class youth choirs from across South Africa for a 3-day festival. Singers will also have the opportunity to have cultural exchanges through community service, performance exchanges with local schools, experience wildlife and nature, and be the featured international group of the choral festival.

Inspired by the Boston Children’s Chorus’ tour to South Africa, Echoes of Freedom explores music born from struggle and hope from across the world, and the enduring belief that a more just world is possible. This program highlights songs that sustained communities through oppression, gave voice to resistance, and carried dreams of liberation into the future. Drawing from South African freedom songs alongside music from the United States and beyond, Echoes of Freedom invites audiences to imagine a world where opportunity is not determined by race, class, or circumstance, where communities work together to create a more equitable future.

In our season’s finale weekend, our singers engage Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King’s Poor People’s Campaign, exploring the enduring impacts of socioeconomic inequity and poverty. A Just Inheritance calls us to examine the legacy we will leave for the next generation, and our shared responsibility to leave a more just and equitable world for those who follow.
